Garage sale makeover: Medicine Cabinet

Medicine Cabinet Makeover!
I picked this gem up at a local garage sale for about $3
I made sure to sand it really good because it kind of  had a varnish finish on it
Then I painted a lovely gray color
And then I used my die cutter to cut out some decorative shapes.  Then I used modge podge to seal them on there, or you could use vinyl!

Spice Cabinet Makeover

Spice Jar Organization!!
Before :-(
I got a bunch of baby food jars (the bigger size which I think is size 3?) and cleaned them out.   Then, I used my Silhouette Cameo and some nifty chalkboard vinyl that I got to create labels for my jars. I rubbed some chalk over the labels to "prime" them so the chalk would stick better.
I spray painted the baby jar lids blue, red and green.
The AWESOME spice rack my hubby made for me!
Ahhh so much better! Now I just need to do the rest of my pantry ;-p

Fancy Pants Frames

Here are some awesome frames my hubby made for me!
  1. I used my silhouette to make the templates of these frames.
  2. Then, Garrett cut them out of wood and route the edges all fancy. He routed the back of the frames where the glass was gonna go.
  3. He also had to cut out the glass and the back pieces that covered the glass.
  4. Then we sanded and painted them.
  5. Next, I sanded the edges to rough them up a bit.
  6. Then, I put the hardware on the back. (Picture frame turn buttons, and sawtooth hangers)
  7. And finally we sealed them with polyurethane and hung these bad boys up!
I got my paints from Home Depot in the little tester sizes.

Here are the paint colors I used:
Gray: Glidden "Seal Gray"
Red: Martha Stewart "Maine Lobster"
Orange: Behr "Poppy Glow"
Yellow: Martha Stewart "Pencil"
Green: Behr "Japanese Fern"
Aqua: Martha Stewart "Duck's Egg"
Blue: Behr "Mosaic Tile"
Purple: Martha Stewart "Violet Aster"
Pink: Martha Stewart "Peony"
Brown: Martha Stewart "Chocolate Truffle" (I think this one got discontinued though)

Autumn Pinecone Garland

Here is another idea I got from Pinterest here. I spray painted the pinecones yellow and ivory then hot glued them to some twine and hung them up! So simple and easy but they add a lot of character to your decor.

The tray after a couple coats of paint
We used a Silhouette die cutter to cut this quatrefoil pattern out of vinyl
Got some of this awesome stuff to add a nice and shiny finish
And Voila!
On my lovely console table Garrett made me ;-) I think I may put my laptop in it for now ... and yes that is a giant container full of Starbursts!

Chevron Rug

I decided that my entryway needed some sprucing up so I found this tutorial for a super cute rug online. Here are the spots where I got my instructions from here, here & here! They also have a lot of other cool home projects you should check out! I found myself being lost on their blogs for hours so be careful!

Before: Ugly
THIS Ikea Rug
Before painting
Tape off the edges
Paint with white semi gloss latex paint
Put cans around the edges while it dries so it doesn't curl up. We let it dry overnight.
Smart husband measuring out a stencil for me
The stencil we created
Using the stencil to paint the rug this blue/gray/green color from Martha Stewart Paint called arrowroot. A dabbing motion with the sponge brush worked best. Be careful not to get underneath the stencil. We weighted it down with cans but then would hold it down with our hands on the areas where we were painting.
All painted! Now off to dry overnight.
We then sanded it to roughen it up a little bit.
Voila! So much prettier :-)

Evolution of Painting

I was getting sick of having double mirrors facing eachother in our bedroom because I didn't have anything else to put up above the bed. So, we saw this cool painting at Z Gallerie and decided to try and recreate it and make it match our bedding. I think eventually we want to make frame to go around it.

Corkboard, napkin holder, quilt

I have issues ... whenever I come across something online I think to myself "I could make that" and I end up spending a lot of time and sometimes money recreating these projects. Most of the time I find these project ideas on Etsy because most of their stuff is handmade by sellers anyway. Sometimes I find ideas on blogs and sometimes I just recreate projects from the mastermind known as Amy Butler. Here are some of my latest ...
